Seat Belts - Do You Use Yours?

When you register your car are you aware that you are giving it away? Moreover, do you know the difference between travelling and driving? Then there is the road traffic act. So, discuss all the injustices to do with travel and cars etc.

Seat Belts - Do You Use Yours?

Post by Zero »

Seat Belts - Do You Use Yours?

In the UK it is a legal requirement to wear a seat belt in a car.
Anyone over the age of 14 is responsible for strapping themselves in with the safety belt.
It is the driver of the car who is responsible for anyone under 14 years old and they must see to it that the under 14's wear their seat belts.
There are all sorts of other requirements like children using the correct seat for their weight until they reach 135 centimetres tall or their 12th birthday, whichever is first.
There are a few exceptions to the law on seat belts ie when reversing you don not need to wear a seat belt and you don't need to on possible health grounds.

The fine for not wearing a seat belt in the UK is up to £500.00 but has a minimum penalty of £100.00 if you don't go to court.

There are thousands of people that choose not to wear their seat belts and many are caught and dealt with.
Do you wear yours? If you do then why do you and if you don't why don't you?
Discuss!

I always use my seatbelt now but years ago that wasn't the case.
If I don't wear my seat belt I have an alarm what rings out and its pretty loud.
I do think that I feel safer too because I want to survive in case of any accident.
I am not being a softy, far from it, I just want to avoid injury caused by others.
I think it should have come down to personal choice for adults.
So, yes I wear my seatbelt at all time nowadays.

I use my seat belt all the time because of that stupid pinging alarm in the car.
I have travelled without using the seat belt but that's very infrequent and the music would have to be loud to drown out the alarm

I always say it should be down to personal choose and you should not be forced to do anything you don't want.

I use my seat belt all the time now.
Lets face it we were forced to wear the seat belts and it has now become a habit.
Sometimes wearing a seat belt can be a pain when you do loads of short journeys.

I use my seat belt all the time.
Sometimes when I forget to put it on the car sounds an alarm at 15mph or something like that.
I used to let my mate leave his off when he wanted to but the alarm goes off for him too.
How on earth does the car know he is there lol.
Keep the bastards honest.

I tried not to wear my seat belt the other night whilst thinking about this forum thread.
The bloody alarm activated "beep, beep" but not to be deterred I turned the music up and the music drowned out the seat belt warning

I also refuse to drive my car unless everyone has their seat belt on even if they are over 14 years of age ;)
