Shopping Bag - 5p Tax

Shopping Bag - 5p Tax

If anyone in the UK goes shopping and needs a carrier bag to take their shopping home they will now be charged 5p for the privilege.

Prior to October 2015, people in England were given their plastic shopping bags for free.
New rules dished out by the traitors in Westminster state that all shops with more than 250 employees must not charge at least 5p for their carrier bags.
They call it a charge - we call it a tax!
The profit from this is supposed to go to charity.

They allegedly brought in the charge as a means of cleaning up the environment.
Around 7.6 billion single use carrier bags were used before the charge was introduced.
It stands to reason that with those figures, the greedy ministers in their Ivory Towers will have wanted to stick their noses in.

There is no doubt that some people have been irresponsible with the use of the bags and helped to increase pollution.
However, that is another matter that should be dealt with.

I have never bought a shopping bag since the charge was brought in and wont ever pay it.
I am not being taxed unnecessarily and the shops don't even want to charge it!

You don't need to pay the charge for uncooked fish, uncooked meat and poultry, takeaways, loose seeds and flowers, unwrapped blades, including axes, knives, and knife and razor blades, prescription medicine and goldfish.

One discount store has decided to get around the "law" in a novel way however.
Card Factory has found that if it cuts off the handles then they don't need to charge you!
But if you want to buy a shopping bag with the handles on that's not a problem, they will serve you one.
Hats off to Card Factory for coming down on the side of the people.

Nice one Card Factory!
I know its only 5p but that is not the point.
The world has gone crazy when we allow those in power to impose these taxes upon us.
Next time I visit Tesco or Farmfoods I will tell them to cut the handles off their shopping bags and see what they say

I am very surprised that more shops haven't took advantage of this "loophole".

Nice fight back by the shops lol.
A bit too late as the charge has been in for four months or so.
I don't buy carrier bags, I just totally refuse to be forced to pay for something that was once free.

They can cut the handles off these carrier bags every time for me as I never hardly use them.
One final point though, why should I be forced to buy a carrier bag with the name of the shop?
That would mean that I am paying to advertise their shops.
I know what they can do as well!

This carrier bag tax has to stop!
Its a case where the government have seen that billions of carrier bags are given away free and they though they would get in on the act.
After all, what is 10 billion 5p's :o
I am really surprised that the shops didn't have an alternative to the Nazi government's tax.
I bet any money its an illegal act anyway!

Stuff the 5p carrier bag tax!
If they don't give me on of their advertising shopping bags for free then I will take the stuff to the car holding what I can and come back for the rest.
That should teach the corporates

The Card Factory got some decent advertising out of this because until they cut the handles off the carrier bags I never heard of them.
I am not knocking them, far from it.
I like their idea and thank them for supporting the customer rather than being forced to do something they maybe didn't want to do!

I see that a plastic bag maker has gone out of business because of a drop in demand because of this carrier bag tax.
It might have only been 5p but it has had a dramatic effect.
40 jobs have disappeared because of the charge :poke:

That's not good news for the workers.
The government will have predicted this but couldn't care less.
